About Us

INTBAU Hungary

INTBAU Hungary was established in 2025 by Adam Ragab as part of the International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism (INTBAU)—a global charity under the patronage of His Majesty King Charles III, based in London. INTBAU Hungary works locally as part of this worldwide effort to promote enduring, traditional building methods, architecture and urbanism.

  • Our goal is to support and revitalize Hungary’s rich architectural heritage through traditional building methods, sustainable urbanism, and architecture. Our organization seeks to bridge the gap between modern development and cultural preservation, especially in cities like Budapest, where the tension between tradition heritage and new construction is growing.

  • Our mission is to advocate for sustainable practices that respect historical context while adapting to contemporary needs.
"Architecture is not only about shaping space, but also about passing on culture and traditions."

– Imre Makovecz

About Foundation

International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture & Urbanism

The International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture & Urbanism (INTBAU) is a global charity founded in 2001 to support traditional building, architecture, and urban design that reflect and sustain local identity. With over 10,000 members and 40 national Chapters across more than 100 countries, INTBAU works to promote approaches to the built environment that are rooted in place, community, and continuity.

INTBAU’s activities – ranging from workshops and summer schools to conferences, awards, study tours and projects – help share knowledge, skills, and ideas that connect tradition with innovation. As national Chapters increasingly lead their own projects tailored to local contexts, the INTBAU College of Chapters (ICC) was established to support this growing network and strengthen international collaboration.

What we do

How we make a difference?

Networking

INTBAU Hungary aims to create an active network of individuals and institutions dedicated to protecting, maintaining, designing, studying, and promoting traditional building, architecture, and urbanism.

Public awareness and education

Our initial priority is to launch educational and public awareness programs promoting traditional building methods in Hungary. We aim to develop hands-on workshops with local craftspeople, organize public lectures, and collaborate with universities on research into sustainable urbanism.

Supporting Research in Sustainable Urbanism

To collaborate with universities and organizations on sustainable urban planning, integrating traditional methods with contemporary solutions, and promoting rural rehabilitation and biodiversity initiatives.

Strengthening International Collaboration

To build relationships with other INTBAU chapters and international organizations, fostering cross-border collaboration on projects that promote the preservation and revitalization of traditional architecture globally.

Project advisory and implementation

As part of our broader mission, our aim to develop strong working relationships with key market players, including local authorities, developers, and planners, to advocate for the integration of these methods into public projects. By becoming actively involved in the planning, permitting, and development stages of newly built projects, we seek to influence contemporary building practices and ensure that traditional, sustainable techniques are considered viable options. This will not only help preserve cultural heritage but also promote environmentally responsible construction in public developments across Hungary and beyond.
